Are you a plotter or a pantser?

I'm definitely a plotter. But I used to be a pantser. I've found as my time gets tighter, I need more of a plan when I sit down than just winging it. Otherwise I waste a lot of the little time I have prepared.

There are a ton of ways to plot and it really depends on each person. I personally don't start plotting until I've written some random scenes with the characters--to get to know them better. Then I start to play around with what if's and finally move into "formal plotting".

I've used the Snowflake Method (a little too structured for me, but it was also my first attempt at plotting), a very randomly invented method of notecards that didn't really make a lot of sense, and tons of outlines. One method that allowed me a little more of a visual grasp was the Plot Dot method. It just made sense to me and I've altered it fit more into my needs.

Do you use "Save the Cat" or a traditional plot diagram? There are so many different ways out there.
